In March the Core Group worked with White Design to carry out a Derive, which is a technique for exploring and understanding the local environment. In particular, it is a way of looking at a familiar place with ‘fresh eyes’. It is designed around basic rules, so the person undertaking the Derive will follow these whilst moving through the environment, perhaps exploring new parts of the area and following routes not usually taken. This experience provides the person with a greater insight to their area and will inform decisions about how the new building fits into the community.
